Coming from a big city and fine dining experiences let's face it walking into this place scared me. It wasn't the cleanliness as it was very clean and the staff was welcoming but the "older diner" look made me wonder if fellow yelpers had this place all wrong. I was so mad that we ended up here and was ready to leave but decided to give it a chance anyway and I am so glad I did.
When we arrived there was only one other table but within minutes all of the large tables were taken and the server was so busy I wasn't sure how she was going to manage all of the large parties. Outside of not bringing us our appetizer (and not changing us for it) she did an outstanding job of keeping up. I'm actually glad our appetizers didn't come as the other portions were more than enough.
We ordered the Cajun pasta and she offered to make the heat to order if I didn't want it to spicy. We also had the all you can eat fish fry that came with a very generous first portion and an even more generous second portion given without request. When given the second portion she offered to box it up or have others at the table share it. What establishment ever does that?!?
The good was all cooked perfect and was better than any fine dining place we've been to. The worst part was the drinks. Soft drinks were in cans, small beer selection and didn't appear to have many other drink choices.

Prices and food quality is fair, and portions were hefty. Service, however, needs work. There's only one lady running the show in terms of seating customers, taking orders, serving food and drinks, ringing customers up, and bussing tables. That's simply too much for one gal on a busy afternoon.

Naturally, she was short with us as she was rushing around to all the tables. Dropped off menus and stated she would "be back in 15 minutes to take orders". We were caught off guard by the comment, but she was understandably doing her best in terms of speed. It did take awhile to order, receive our food and drinks, and no water refills were given. She did quickly check on us a couple times, but only so briefly while she was passing by our table heading towards the kitchen/front counter.

Hire more help! Else you'll burn out the poor lady.

The dinner orders contain large portions, some bread, and a side salad.  The salad if quite plain but not unappreciated. The staff was friendly and relatively prompt for a weeknight. The food is good but pretty basic home cooking, which isn't all bad depending on what you're looking for. The setting is kind of retro diner/taqueria.  TVs offer entertainment.  I guess this could be a 4 star spot if you ordered up with large portions and took some togo?

Very delicious food!!! Passing by Madera and we were looking for a quick bite. This place has very delicious Cajun pasta for a very reasonable price.
